This scene is on my own HO scale layout.
This is above Hillside Lumber and Superior Bakery
Another angle of two industries on my HO scale GRR model railroad. The track with the lumber car is an industrial spur. The track next to the bakery and lumber yard along the main is a long team track.
This shows Al's Grocery (named after my Dad who owned a grocery store), Superior Bakery, and Hillside Lumber. The N&W Alco C630 is sound equipped and weatherd. Lights are off, because I had track power off at time and to prevent short from any stray tools I had on the other part of the layout.
WARNING! BEFORE CONNECTING UP YOUR DCC SYSTEM, READ ALL THE MANUALS AND INSTRUCTIONS THAT CAME WITH IT! THIS DIAGRAM IS A GUIDE FOR MY LAYOUT ONLY! IF YOU DESIRE YOU CAN USE IT AS A GUIDE FOR YOU, BUT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU HOOK UP YOUR LAYOUT LIKE MINE AND YOU FRY YOUR ELECTRONICS. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR MISTAKES!!! Here is another shot. Superior Bakery has been moved. I have a large Walther's printing company model that may go here, once it is constructed.
This shows stages of my yard. Unfortunately, not much has changed here.
This is how I made use of pink foam board and putty to create hill and bridge as seen in finished photos of house and bridge and Superior Bakery.
This is another shot taken a long time back. The finished product has the lumber yard and Superior Bakery in it. This is more close up
This is the Brewery on the GRR. The kit is Fairhaven Bottling. I believe Life Like put this out several years ago.
No coal is loading today ;) This is my next project. The partially assembled kit is from Walthers New River Mine, which is based on a Colorado mine, not WVA. The New River does run through WVA so go figure.
This is a view of the Walthers' New River Mine HO scale kit. I am doing some modification to it. I am putting in lights. In order to put in lights I added some cross members. Since I am using lights, I wanted the interior to light up. So, I painted the inside walls with a coat of paint. I also painted the top of the coal loading chutes, being careful to mask off the shoots so over-spray would not show up in the shoot. I did get some over-spray on other parts of the building, but once it is complete and weathered you will not notice it. The interior paint is not perfect, it was just so the light would reflect better out the windows. The windows will probably be hit with Testors Dullcote as well.
Here is another view of the NRM kit. My gripe with Walthers' kits are that there are not any locking tabs to hold the corners. So I used Ambroid Pro Weld liquid glue and Right-Clamps. However the pieces are so big they have a tendency to warp. The plastruct braces serve two purposes. 1. Hold the lights, and 2. Brace the walls. If you notice on the right hand part of the structure there is floor. This is a second story floor and it also braces and supports the structure.
I cheated, this station is a Woodland Scenics built up. The farm equipment on the right will go and probably be replaced with a power plant kit from Walthers.
This is a view of the edge of downtown. I still have work to do on this as with most of the layout.
This is just left to the scene in the partial downtown view. This is 90% done.
This shows part of the coal mine and another view of a seedy area near the freight yards.
Just to give you some perspective on this 10x10 HO layout. I need to get some skirts to hide what is underneath the layout.
This KATO SD45, custom painted by a friend for my old club's private road. Hopefully one of the members in the club will take it off my hands at a fair and reasonable price
Just a joke folks. Churshsigngenerator.com.
