The images in the Pennsylvania Gallery contains pictures taken on three trips to Pennsylvania. The first year (2007) I did a little on the West Slope, some shots in Altoona, and some in Scranton. In 2008, I got more coverage into the west of Horseshoe Curve, but I did manage to get a couple more locations in Altoona and stopped by Mifflin. In 2009, I concentrated more between Altoona and east to Tyrone, with a couple of shots in Portage.

The is the shot of the helpers on the coal train we caught coming past Alto Tower
A westbound train comes past the pedestrian bridge in Altoona, PA.
Altoona from the pedestrian bridge, near the Railroaders Museum. An eastbound stack eases by. I must have caught about 5 trains in 20 minutes here.
Want some tractors? These were caught on the same manifest train that had the dozer. We are looking east, as the train heads east, from the pedestrian bridge outside the Railroader's Museum in Altoona, PA. May 2007
A nice surprise is riding this east bound manifest as it comes under the pedestrian bridge, just outside the Railroaders Museum, in Altoona, PA.
ALTO tower had just got a new coat of paint from the time I was there in May 2008. An eastbound has just come off the mountain and will have an easier run towards Harrisburg
An ex Conrail or LMS C40-8w and an Ex UP SD50 or SD60 standard cab are on the point with a more modern NS C40-9 GE unit (NS derated C44 to C40). The Pennsy signal bridge is another classic relic as well as the manned ALTO tower!
A new NS EMD Mac comes under the signal bridge at ALTO tower in Altoona.
This is SLOPE Interlocking. This is where the climb begins for west bounds out of Altoona. We waited over 20 minutes in the rain for this train. The lead unit had a faulty reverser handle, another handle was taken out of another unit
We caught our favorite train again coming down the slope at Brickyard, just beyond slope west of Altoona, east of "The Curve"
We were able to skip ahead and catch the Train of the Day at Brickyard on the downslope.
Before our favorite train showed up, we caught this westbound auto-carrier train at Brickyard
Train 20Q heads down the mountain. It is eastbound and has come through Horseshoe Curve about two miles earlier. The old PRR signal bridges have just been recently replaced (look at concrete) on the old PRR mainline
This is the helper set on train 20Q that has just passed under the new signal bridge at the ledges.
What's this? A new signal mast is going up. The old Pennsy style signal bridges are going down along this line. Get your pictures now. It will be interesting to see what they do with the one at Summer Hill.
The brush has grown up again. About 5-10 years ago they cleared the brush through here. Now it is back. The park at the top of the curve is a nice place to visit have a lunch and watch some trains. Unfortunately your photo angles are very limited now. You cannot see a train around all the curve with the brush.
Horseshoe Curve. The visitors enjoy a friendly wave from the crew on this spring day in May 2007.
NS business cars going around Horseshoe Curve. The unit is a rebuilt GP38. The un-turbocharged prime mover sounded great. I wish I would have gotten it on audio.
A NS train heads for Altoona, going around Horseshoe Curve and past a welding unit. May 2007.
A coal train is on track one heading east towards Bennington then Horseshoe Curve
